I am a lifelong resident of Connecticut and
spent the better part of my youth fishing on LI Sound.
My dad was a biology teacher in Stamford and gave me my earliest taste of
the marine environment. Both my parents are avid botanists and mycologists. Professionally... I spent the
first 15 years of my professional life on Wall Street at a couple of the
worlds most successful hedge funds. I was chief trader in FX, fixed
income and commodities for George Soros at Quantum fund from
1984 to 1988 and worked as an economic and commodity analyst for
Louis Bacon at Moore Capital from 1988 to 1994. After that
I spent two years as a commodity analyst under Mike Aronstein at
West Course Capital. At West Course I did some venture capital
analysis on several aquaculture investments thanks to my
interest in fishing and fisheries. I eventually took a job
at one of them (Aquafuture). Working at Aquafuture (now
Australis
http://www.australis.us/ ) helped me establish the
four rules of
aquaculture and set me on a path to find a way to actually
make an aquaculture venture commercially successful.
Through sheer chance, I ended up meeting Jim Markow in the
spring of 1999 and started CT Cultured Oysters shortly
thereafter.
I now split my time between capital market endeavors; working for FXA and managing a small pool of capital for a long time friend and market associate, which keep me in close touch with the world of finance, and my cultured oyster farm operation, which allows me to get away. I live in Pawcatuck, Connecticut with my wife Jill my daughter Sydney and my boy Asher. I consider myself a "true" environmentalist. I still love to fish though I am less frantic about it these days. |
